The AEJ UK has donated more than 1500 Euros to Ukrainian journalists in response to an appeal for members’ contributions agreed at the annual members’ meeting on 4 February 2023.
Treasurer David Worsfold has sent £1,385 (= Euros 1,527.68) to RSF headquarters in Paris as the “AEJ UK Fund for the Safety of Ukrainian Journalists”.
AEJ UK chairman William Horsley thanked members for their “very generous donations” and noted:
“It is a tremendous show of solidarity and goodwill towards media colleagues there who were forced to become war reporters after Russia’s full-scale invasion over a year ago. Ukrainian journalists continue to face the same 24-hour-a-day risks as the rest of the civilian population, as well as additional dangers when reporting from the frontlines and sometimes suffering targeted attacks by Russian forces’ attacks directed against individual journalists and media facilities.”
RSF offered “deep and warm thanks for the support brought to over 1100 journalists and media, particularly affected by this military and disinformation war.”
RSF opened the Press Freedom Center in Lviv on 11 March 2022 in partnership with its long-standing Ukrainian partner the Institute of Mass Information (IMI) and has supported war reporters and Ukrainian independent media with personal protective equipment, financial assistance, capacity building for journalists’ safety, and psychological support.
