The war in Ukraine has turned Ukrainian journalists into war reporters.
At a workshop of the University of Sheffield’s Centre for Media Freedom hosted by the centre’s international director William Horsley November 7-10, the head of Ukraine’s National Union of Journalists Sergiy Tomilenko presented a video narrative about the impact on Ukrainian journalists and their responses to being plunged into the role of war reporters in their own country.
He told how he and his colleagues risk their lives to report the realities of the war: the bombardment of cities and Russian propaganda, how Russian troops try to capture or kill Ukrainian journalists, and efforts to document evidence of war crimes.
