UK’s Ofcom revokes RT licence

The UK’s media regulator has revoked RT’s licence to broadcast in the UK.

Ofcom took the action on March 18 saying the licence holder was not “fit and proper to hold a UK broadcast licence”.

RT (formerly Russia Today) called Ofcom a tool of the British government and the Kremlin denounced the action as “madness”.

Ofcom’s action followed nearly 30 investigations into RT since Russia invaded Ukraine and echoed moves in other European countries following the EU Commission’s ban on RT and Sputnik on March 2.
