The challenge of AI

As lawmakers and the media race to catch up with the huge challenge of artificial intelligence, the AEJ UK will host a discussion on AI, the media and society at a lunchtime meeting on October 28 with guest Michael McNamara, MEP and co-chair of the European Parliament’s Working Group on the Implementation and Enforcement of the AI Act.

AI clearly has huge implications for how information is gathered, curated and distributed and how that will impact the media and journalism.
In the wrong hands it is a tool for disseminating misinformation but it will also become a tool that will embed itself in the working lives of journalists.
It impacts the business models of publishing and the creative sectors with threats to copyright and established revenue models.

Michael McNamara MEP co-chair EU working group on AI

Michael McNamara is at the heart of the debate on these issues in the EU as every major jurisdiction urgently works on its plans and draws up a legislative framework in which AI can operate.

This AEJ UK meeting is at Europe House by courtesy of the European Parliament Liaison Office in the UK, and is open to journalists, academics and Europe specialists.
