The Fosse Way – Roman Britain today

The latest book from AEJ UK member Rick Thompson traces the history of the famous Roman road, The Fosse Way, that spears 230 miles straight through the centre of England.

A Year on the Fosse is a month-by-month journey from Lincoln to Exeter, with the stories of the villages, market towns and cathedral cities that grew up where the Romans had established forts on the line of the great ‘fossa’ or defensive ditch.
The book details the folklore and fable and some curious tales of the people and places along the way as well as the wildlife in the different landscapes and nature reserves along the route, many of which are based on flooded quarries dug by the Romans as they paved the Fosse Way nearly 2000 years ago.

A Year on the Fosse is available from all leading booksellers, priced at £12.
